Michelin-Starred Elcielo Miami To Open Second Location At SLS South Beach This Summer

On July 25, 2023, Colombian-born celebrity chef Juan Manuel Barrientos’ Michelin-starred Elcielo Miami will open its second location at the SLS South Beach. This marks another milestone for the restaurant’s growing expansion— in addition to Miami, Elcielo currently has locations in Medellín, Bogotá, and Washington, D. C., the latter of which was the first Colombian restaurant to have attained a Michelin star— as well as for SLS South Beach’s portfolio of culinary destinations. The new restaurant will be located at the space previously occupied by The Bazaar by José Andrés, which was reimagined by designer Philippe Starck.

At its original location in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood, guests were introduced to the Colombian-inspired tasting menu that celebrates Barrientos’ heritage. This will be available at the SLS South Beach location, and in addition— for the first time— the option to dine a la carte.

“We are thrilled to bring our second Elcielo Miami location to the beautiful SLS South Beach,” Barrientos says in a statement. “Elcielo at SLS South Beach is going to be something unique— this is going to be our first foray into Elcielo a la carte. We are going to have the best Elcielo dishes available. Classic dishes like the corn arepa and caviar, ‘árbol de la vida,’ ribs in guava and tamarind, yucca gnocchi with truffle and sweet plantain honey will be featured but with an innovative twist and will only be available at the new location, not to mention, in a pairing with the best of our cocktail bar options.” These include Chimberito Aguardiente, which features cachaça, soursop, yuzu; and Bogota Sour, built with bourbon, lemongrass, lime and Malbec wine to name a few.

Guests can enjoy signatures like the truffle buñuelos with torched foie gras; crispy crab empanadas infused with Caribbean spice; lulo ceviche in passion fruit milk; roasted quail stuffed with guanciale and mushrooms, and the ultra-photogenic Tree of Life made with cassava, cheese and basil—as individual plates at SLS South Beach.

“Culinary excellence and discovery are at the heart of the SLS South Beach experience,” says Simon Sorpresi, SLS South Beach, Area Vice President. “We are delighted to welcome Elcielo as our esteemed partner in delivering an extraordinary dining experience to our guests.”
