In addition to replacement parts, Microsoft is also offering access to all the official repair and replacement guides covering the eligible Surface hardware. However, for the repair tools, DIY enthusiasts will still have to rely on iFixit. Of course, you will find more replacement parts for recently launched products compared to older Surface computers.
Take, for example, the Surface Pro 7, which was introduced late in 2019 and was deemed notoriously difficult to repair by none other than iFixit. The Microsoft Store is currently offering only a replacement kickstand for the tablet. It’s no coincidence though, because the malfunctioning kickstand has long been a problem hurting Surface tablet owners.
Plus, the replacement parts don’t really come cheap. You will have to cough up $1,749.99 to get your hands on a replacement screen for the Surface Studio 2+, while the same part for the Surface Pro 9 will cost you $349.99 a pop. Bear in mind the standard warnings with DIY repairs. First, if you are unsure about it, don’t go on a self-repair adventure with your broken Surface computer. Second, if you pay for the repair tools purchased from iFixit, it is forever going to stay with you as a single-utility purchase for your DIY project.
