Former Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey has reportedly landed an NBA job.
According to the South Bend Tribune‘s Tom Noie, Brey will join the Atlanta Hawks as an assistant coach next season. It’ll mark his first NBA role after over four decades in college basketball.

Brey revitalized the Fighting Irish program, taking them to 13 NCAA tournaments with an ACC title in 2014-15. However, he stepped down after Notre Dame went 11-21, the worst season of his 23-year tenure.
Last month, Brey told ESPN’s Pete Thamel he planned to pursue a TV job after interviewing for USF’s coaching vacancy. He instead found a new opportunity on an NBA sideline.
In 1995, Brey’s last year as an assistant at Duke coincided with Quin Snyder’s first. The 64-year-old will now join Snyder’s staff. Atlanta hired the former Utah Jazz head coach to replace Nate McMillan in February.
The Hawks earned the Eastern Conference’s No. 7 seed after defeating the Miami Heat in the play-in tournament. They’ll try to bounce back from a Game 1 loss to the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night.
