On Tuesday, it was announced that Knicks legend Willis Reed passed away. He was 80 years old.
Reed played on the Knicks from 1964-1974. He won two NBA titles and was named MVP of the league during the 1969-70 season.
Shortly after this heartbreaking news was made public, ESPN’s Mike Greenberg offered his thoughts on Reed’s legacy.
“There have been greater players than Willis Reed. There has never been a greater leader,” Greenberg tweeted. “Rest in peace, Captain. Fans of the #Knicks will love you until the end of time.”

Reed’s basketball career was ultimately cut short due to injuries. Nonetheless, his No. 19 was retired by the Knicks.
Knicks fans will always remember Reed’s contributions – on and off the court. After all, he was the Finals MVP for both of the franchise’s championship teams.
Our thoughts are with Reed’s family at this time.
