Tyson and Holyfield fought for the heavyweight world title in 1996 with the latter claiming an 11th round knockout victory.
Six months later they met again in an eagerly anticipated rematch in what would provide one of the most shocking moments ever seen in sport.
Tyson was disqualified in the third round for repeatedly biting his opponent, taking out a chunk of Holyfield’s right ear which was found on the canvas in the aftermath of what eventually became to be known as ‘The Bite Fight’.
Tyson and Holyfield have rebuilt a friendly relationship over the years and held talks over a possible trilogy fight last year after the boxing legends returned to the ring for exhibition bouts.
Tyson, 55, has now revealed a new product from his thriving cannabis empire – small edibles shaped like an ear with each one missing a chunk in a nod to that infamous moment against Holyfield.
Tyson and Holyfield have appeared side-by-side at a number of promotional events over the years with the latter revealing in a 2020 interview with The Times that he had no hesitation in forgiving his old rival over the bite.
‘It don’t bother me. It cost me a lot of grief but I’m glad it happened because it gave me an opportunity to talk about what forgiveness is,’ Holyfield said.
‘If somebody breaks into your house you don’t think, ‘How can I break into theirs?’ What people don’t know is Mike is a lot more knowledgeable than they think.
‘They think he is crazy, but he’s a businessperson now. You can’t be the same way when you get older.’
