Mikel Arteta defends Arsenal players after Claudio Ranieri accusation

Last summer was a huge one as far as Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are concerned.

Arteta hit the market with real enthusiasm during this summer’s transfer window as the club continued it’s big rebuild of the squad that failed to secure a spot in a European competition for the first time in 26 years.

The Gunners racked a bill of almost £149m on signings such as defender Ben White, attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Ex-Bournemouth stopper Ramsdale is just one of the signings to really impress since arriving at the club and has now opened up on his wonder save against Leicester last month.

But the work to improve the squad is far from complete and there could be more ingoings and outgoings at the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming January transfer window, with the club’s owners also keen to see the Gunners make moves.

Ramsdale’s admission

Arsenal’s new first-choice goalkeeper has praised the work he does in training to help him pull off one of the saves of the season so far.

The 23-year-old produced a superb one-handed save to stop James Maddison’s free kick and ensure the Gunners picked up a 2-0 Premier League victory.

Speaking to the Tubes and Ange Golf Life YouTube channel about the stop, Ramsdale said: “It’s hard to explain, it’s just day to day work.

“You don’t actually practise them saves but the footwork and explosions and power and stuff enabled me to get there.”

£70million transfer claim

Josh Kroenke has hinted that Arsenal will dip into the transfer market in January but Dusan Vlahovic is not one of their targets.

The Gunners chief insists the club did not address every area in the summer despite spending almost £150million as he took part in a rare interview.

Kroenke’s appearance on Sky Sports coincided with the report that Arsenal are willing to pay up to Fiorentina’s £70m asking price for Vlahovic in the upcoming window, according to Sky Sport Italia.

But it appears the American was not referring to the Serbian striker as multiple reports have dismissed the notion that Mikel Arteta ‘s men are pursuing the Serie A star.

Arteta hints at January move

England Under-21 boss Lee Carsley has urged Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun to seek a temporary move away from the club – and Mikel Arteta appears to have backed the plans.

The 20-year-old is set to lead the line for Carsley’s side when they take on Czech Republic at Turf Moor on Thursday night.

Despite signing a new contract earlier this year, manager Mikel Arteta has been reluctant to throw him into the starting line-up, with the exception of the opening day defeat to Brentford.

Arteta has hinted that he could allow Balogun to make a move in January, revealing a decision will be made before the end of the year.
