It’s a hit, baby! If you’ve been hearing “Flowers” everywhere, that’s because it is everywhere. The Miley Cyrus pop ode to taking care of yourself without a relationship (and maybe the other half of that Bruno Mars song) is the singer’s first number-one hit in a decade, and when we say “number one,” we mean number one across the board.
The song is topping charts globally, racking up streams and downloads. And Cyrus is celebrating the way she promised she would: taking herself dancing. The Hannah Montana star posed for Instagram in a little black dress with a plunging neckline and sheer stockings, with her hair up and mostly jewellery-free, so she’s ready to dance the night away. Getting a witchy vibe from the bell sleeves too.
In the caption, Miley Cyrus thanked her fans for all their support and did a bit of well-earned bragging, writing, “Celebrating ‘Flowers’ being #1 around the world again this week! I love that this record is connecting in such a positive way & it’s a pleasure to continue creating music for you. These milestones are only made possible by the listeners & my incredible fans. Endlessly thankful. #1 Australia #1 Belgium #1 Canada #1 Denmark #1 Finland #1 France #1 Germany #1 Ireland #1 Netherlands #1 New Zealand #1 Norway #1 Sweden #1 UK #1 US Billboard Hot 100.”
The one thing conspicuously absent? Flowers! Will someone send this girl a bouquet already? Yes, she can buy them herself, and maybe she will, but if I were her record label, I’d be showering the hitmaker with petals.
And there’s more where that came from! “Flowers” is just the first single from Cyrus’s upcoming album, Endless Summer Vacation, which is set to drop on March 10.
Rounding out the top three on Billboard right now are SZA and Taylor Swift, which seriously warms my heart. Women don’t need backing bands or duets to run the table. They can buy themselves flowers and write their own hits….
