Like most other marques, Mini is headed face-first into an electric future. Old models will depart, replaced mainly by EVs, though some familiar names will stick around. Following displays at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed, images have surfaced of what’s around the bend.

The core model, referred to presently with monikers like Hardtop and Hatch, will refreshingly be called just “Cooper,” and come in an array of styles: two- and four-door, regular roof or convertible, and internal-combustion or electric. Speed racers needn’t worry, as plans are still afoot for hotted-up S and JCW variants, though not all permutations will be offered in North America.

Across the showroom, look for the Countryman to grow a bit in size as it gains electrification; while the Clubman is scheduled to depart early next year. That white space will be filled by the – ready for this? – Aceman all-electric, billed by Mini as its first all-electric crossover. Shown here is the concept car which has an, uh, unique front fascia.

Meanwhile, the official Mini account on Instagram gives us a preview as to how the interior of the brand’s next-gen cars will appear. Fresh out of the gate we spy the familiar centre screen, big as a dinner plate – and, quite obviously, round as one, too – and offering up all sort of vehicle information and controls for major systems.

Fortunately, there appears to be a bank of physical switches just south of this screen – as in most current Mini models – which is simultaneously a great callback to the past and a handy set of auxiliary controls in the present.

Those of you with long memories will recall the rebooted Mini of two decades ago used that space for the speedometer and other gauges, as in the original car, though it morphed into an infotainment screen as years passed by. Responding to critics, Mini added a display in front of the driver featuring key readouts so the pilot didn’t have to take their eyes too far off the road to eyeball their current speed.

While the new interior does seem to do away with that latter display, it seems there is a heads-up unit projecting information ahead of the driver; hey, it’s better than nothing.

Expect most of these lineup changes to begin surfacing for the 2025 model year.
