Look for a photo of Minnie Mouse and it’s fair to say her longtime love, Mickey, is right by her side.

But perhaps she’s now looking to discover her independence as she trades in her flashy, iconic, red and white polka-dot dress for a more sedate number: A navy pantsuit designed by Stella McCartney.

Disneyland Paris announced that the Queen of the Mouse House will were a “gorgeous” pantsuit in honour of the theme park’s coming 30th anniversary.

The park opened on April 12, 1992, but the party will get an early start in March to celebrate Women’s History Month – the inspiration for Minnie’s new look.

“Stella McCartney has designed Minnie Mouse’s very first pantsuit, and it’s gorgeous,” Disneyland Paris posted on Twitter.

“Minnie has always had a special place in my heart,” McCartney told D23 , Disney’s official fan club, about the collaboration. “We share the same values.”

The designer, whose father is Beatles legend Paul McCartney, added that Minnie has always had “such great style.”

She continued: “What I love about Minnie is the fact that she embodies happiness, self-expression, authenticity, and that she inspires people of all ages around the world.”

McCartney said the blue tuxedo – which still has Minnie’s signature polka dots – is “a symbol of progress for a new generation.”

Many on social media were conflicted, with some hating on the design and others wishing McCartney had at least made the pantsuit red.
