Missing boy, teacher found in bush

Victorian Police have rescued a boy and teacher who became lost in dense bushland while on a school camp.

A helicopter managed to spot the pair after they became lost while taking part in a group activity on Wednesday night.

The 13-year-old initially became lost after he ventured down an unfamiliar track while taking part in the night time game.

He became increasingly disoriented while trying to find a fence line to return to the track off Wannon River Rd near Dunkeld in Victoria.

The teacher followed the boy’s voice and found him, however both had become stranded.

Police were notified of the missing pair at around midnight, recruiting the police Air Wing to assist in the search.

They were found uninjured at about 3:30am on Thursday.

Air Wing Inspector Kelly Walker said the pair remaining together helped police in the rescue effort.

“Although it’s unfortunate they became lost, sticking together was the right thing to do,” she said.

“Both the man and the boy were very grateful when they saw the police helicopter hovering above them,” Inspector Walker said.

“It’s a good day for the Air Wing when we’re able to support our regional colleagues and community.”

The school camp has not been disrupted and has returned to its activities today.
