MMA Twitter unloads on Cody Durden after xenophobic comment about opponent

Twitter unloads on UFC flyweight Cody Durden after a xenophobic comment about his opponent, Aoriqileng.

UFC flyweight Cody Durden secured an impressive first win in the UFC octagon over Aoriqileng at UFC Vegas 43. But, he threw it all away with his highly controversial post-fight comments.

Durden showcased toughness and grit in a tightly-contested bout with Aoriqileng from start to finish. He was able to withstand Aoriqileng’s barrage on the feet and grind out a unanimous decision win.

Durden’s win was overshadowed by what he said afterward. When UFC commentator and former champion Daniel Cormier asked him about his performance, he said that he intended to “send [Aoriqileng] back to China” with the win.

There were an awkward few seconds of silence from Cormier and the broadcast crew before the interview was abruptly stopped. The small crowd in attendance at the UFC APEX sounded appalled by Durden’s comments too.

Check out the moment below.

The MMA community quickly took to Twitter in support of Aoriqileng and to roast Durden.

Durden was on the verge of celebrating an incredible performance in the octagon before his remarks. Now, his future employment as a UFC fighter is sure to be questioned.

Entering the fight with Aoriqileng, he suffered a first-round loss to Jimmy Flick and was preceded by a unanimous draw against Chris Gutierrez.

Before joining the UFC, Durden found relative success in smaller promotions such as NFC and VFC.
