Mo Gilligan will donate his fee for presenting this year’s BRIT Awards to charity.

The comedian, who is also a judge on The Masked Singer, revealed the news on social media saying he “believed in giving back”.

His chosen charity is Five x More, a black maternity organisation ‘committed to changing black women’s maternal health outcomes in the UK’.

In a tweet, the 33-year-old stand-up wrote: “I believe in giving back so I’m going to be donating my fee for the @BRITs to @fivexmore.

“They do extraordinary work and when the spotlight is on me I must shine it on others.”

Adding another post on Instagram, Mo continued: “Last year I had the year of my life.

“It was amazing, so I’m starting how I finished. I’m starting it by hosting the 2022 @brits award & I’m extremely exciting to be donating my @brits fee to @fivexmore_.

“They do amazing work in the community… give these ladies a follow to see the amazing work they do for maternal health.”

Mo was praised by his celebrity pals, including former Saturdays star turned TV presenter Rochelle Humes.

Last year mum-of-three Rochelle took part in the Channel 4 documentary Black Maternity Scandal, which shockingly revealed black women are four times more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth than white women.

Commenting on Mo’s post, Rochelle said of the Five x More charity: “They are incredible.”

Singer Ray Blk added: “Incredible. I love what the charity does.”

BBC Radio 1 DJ Rickie Haywood-Williams also showed his support, adding: “Love this Mo.”

In November, it was announced the BRITs were scrapping the male and female categories in favour of gender-neutral awards.

Non-binary singer Sam Smith, previously nominated in the Best British Male category, had criticised the BRITs for lacking inclusion by keeping gendered awards.

But the decision has raised concerns that dropping the female categories in an awards previously criticised for its male dominance will lead to women being snubbed.
