The makers of Mochinut, that sweet, chewy fusion of two classics — Japanese mochi and American doughnut — have broadened their reach in the Bay Area with shops in Concord and San Leandro.
At these two Instagram-worthy locations, the 25-plus flavors of Mochinut are offered on a rotating basis, with popular options such as peach, black sesame, churro, ube, strawberry funnel, chocolate and matcha. All are made with rice flour, which gives them their signature chewy, sticky consistency. They’re made fresh every 15 to 30 minutes, the company vows.
The shops also serve Korean rice-flour hot dogs, fish cakes and boba drinks.
Northern California is home to 16 shops, with two on the way (Palo Alto and Sacramento/Fulton), according to the company’s website. Besides the new San Leandro and Concord ones, there are Bay Area shops in San Jose (San Pedro Square, Oakridge), Hayward, San Mateo, Pleasanton and Vacaville. Southern California, where the company is headquartered, there are 53 shops open or in the works.
Details: Open in San Leandro from 8:30 a.m. daily until 8 p.m. or 9 p.m. (Friday-Saturday) at 185 Pelton Center Way, San Leandro. Open in Concord from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at 1801 Sutter St., Suite H. www.mochinut.com
