Activision is gearing up to unveil Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The Call of Duty publisher will fully reveal the new game during an in-game event taking place within Warzone Battle Royale. The Shadow Siege Modern Warfare 3 event has an August 17 release date and a 6.30pm BST UK launch time. As part of the event, participants will receive a variety of rewards for both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone, including the Konni Group emblem, the Tier Skip Battle Token, the Crimson Sound Calling Card, the Serpent Slayer Vehicle Skin, the Gas Canister Charm and the ARM13C weapon.
Activision explains more: “This reveal represents a special moment for Call of Duty, as for the first time in franchise history, this year’s premium release serves as a direct sequel to last year’s Modern Warfare 2.
“Our vision to deliver back-to-back Modern Warfare games has been years in the making.
“From the start of development across both Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, Sledgehammer Games has worked closely with Infinity Ward to create a blockbuster sequel in the Modern Warfare series, featuring the return of iconic heroes and villains alike.
“Players will be able to grow closer to the characters, delve deeper into the storylines, and continue to build out progression and loadouts without interruption.”
The original Modern Warfare 2 villain Makarov will make an appearance in this year’s sequel, alongside other familiar faces from the series.
According to a recent Activision blog post, Modern Warfare 2 players will be able to carry their progression to the upcoming sequel.
This includes inventory and weapon progression, which means your unlocked items are likely to stay.
The new Modern Warfare will also have a Zombies mode, which is described as the “largest Zombies offering to date”.
The campaign will feature Open Combat missions, as well as Combat Vests and a Perk system for customising multiplayer characters.
Activision will also improve its Ricochet Anti-Cheat system, while implementing new anti-toxicity measures.
Previous rumours suggest Modern Warfare 3 will contain remastered versions of the maps contained within the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009.
This includes Afghan, Derail, Estate, Favela, Highrise, Invasion, Karachi, Quarry, Rundown, Rust, Scrapyard, Skidrow, Sub Base, Terminal, Underpass, and Wasteland.
Elsewhere, Modern Warfare 3 players will have 150 HP in multiplayer, as well as a regenerating tactical sprint ability and red dots on the mini-map to represent unsuppressed weapon fire.
