Modu’s Lunar New Year feast

We’re told to never throw food, but during Lunar New Year celebrations it’s not only encouraged, it’s considered good luck.

So it’s lucky that Perth kitchen and bar, Modu, has a bountiful banquet of epic proportions to bring in the year of the Tiger.

Bryan Ho, whose BHO Interiors are responsible for the fit out at the Allendale Square venue which opened its doors in November, his brother, Jonathan Ho, and the team behind Yagan Square’s popular Hiss and Smoke, have created an auspicious menu available until February 15, which marks the end of the Lunar New Year festival.

One such dish is Yee Sang or Prosperity Salad, which involves scenes of chopsticks hastily tearing apart the colourful dish.

“The higher you toss, the luckier your year ahead will be,” Ho told AAA.

“This auspicious dish is mainly done with your family members or close friends. In today’s world, it’s a bit of fun and suddenly I noticed it’s a bit of a new trendy dish in most restaurants at this time of the year.”

In keeping with the theme, truffle wontons symbolic of wealth, longevity noodles and fish, which is a “must”, will be served. Even the price, $328, directly translates to “prosperity in business”.

And it wouldn’t be a feast at Modu without an exquisitely paired cocktail. Wash it down with The Mandarin Tiger — made with orange Fanta (giving away oranges or displaying them around the home is said to bring riches into your life) topped with fairy floss.
