Mohun Bagan remove ATK from name, ISL 2022-23 champions rechristened Mohun Bagan Super Giants

Mohun Bagan owner Sanjeev Goenka announced on Saturday (March 18) that the ATK name will be removed from the club’s name. From next season, they will be known as Mohun Bagan Super Giants.

There was massive fan unrest and protests to remove the name ATK from the prefix of the club’s name, and their new owners have listened to their demands.

As the Kolkata giants won the ISL on Saturday by beating Bengaluru FC, the name ATK has been erased. It will come as a huge news for the Mohun Bagan supporters, as all the Mariners fans will feel their beloved club has got their identity back.

Mohun Bagan beat Bengaluru in the ISL 2022-23 Final in an enthralling match. A 2-2 scoreline after 120 minutes took the match to the penalties, where the Kolkata Giants prevailed over Bengaluru with 4-3 win on tie-breakers.

“It is a very simple but substantial announcement. And that is from next season, the club will be known as Mohun Bagan Super Giants. We are removing ATK,” the owner Sanjeev Goenka said just after their victory.

Gioenka also confirmed that the name change was on the cards and he was just waiting for the completion of the season.
