The century-old club of Kolkata have decided to remove the prefix ATK and will be known as Mohun Bagan Super Giant from next season, the club announced on a statement on social media on Wednesday.
Mohun Bagan and ATK’s merge resulted the new name of ATK Mohun Bagan. The ATK owner Sanjiv Goenka took control of Mohun Bagan after the merge. Fans of the Kolkata club were not amused as there were vehement protests across Bengal against the ATK name.
The #RemoveATK campaign divided the fanbase into two distinghuish poles. And amid the fan unrest, they went on to win the ISL this season. And after their thrilling victory in the final, owner Sanjiv Goenka announced his decision to remove the ATK prefix from the club’s name.
“It is a very simple but substantial announcement. And that is from next season, the club will be known as Mohun Bagan Super Giants. We are removing ATK,” the owner Sanjeev Goenka said just after their victory over Bengaluru in the ISL final.

The club played the Super Cup as ATK Mohun Bagan, but from next season onwards, they will be known as Mohun Bagan Super Giant. The board of the club came to an anonymous decision and approved the name change.
“The board has approved renaming of the club to Mohun Bagan Super Giant effective from 1st June 2023,” a statement from the club read.
