Money in the Bank 2023: Update on former WWE Champion’s return at July PLE

If WWE’s current plans are to be believed then Drew McIntyre, a top WWE Raw Superstar, and a UK native will be onboard around the PLE to send the fans into a frenzy although the exact involvement is yet to be known.

It was PWInsider who first reported behind their paywall, a push was noticed within WWE to pitch new creative ideas regarding Drew McIntyre’s return. Money in the Bank was also noted as the expected landing spot for the mega return.

“There has been a push within WWE creative to have McIntyre back into the storyline mix by Money in the Bank weekend in London. Given his status as one of the company’s top European stars, that makes the most sense.”

To tease more about the return, Drew McIntyre has been announced for his first WWE-related appearance since WrestleMania 39 as he will represent the company at the Special Olympics World Games this year in the Special Olympics Global Ambassador role.

Previous reports suggested that 2023 was the final year of Drew’s most recent WWE contract. Since both sides hadn’t agreed to a new deal, the former WWE Champion had to be taken off TV and it started speculations about his WWE career.

Back at WrestleMania 39 Sunday, Drew was pinned, clean by Gunther in the Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat match, also featuring Sheamus. After the match, Drew posted a goodbye emoji on Twitter to tease his WWE exit.

Now that WWE has announced him to an official role for the Special Olympics, the two parties must have reached a new deal based on which we’re expecting to witness The Scottish Warrior on TV on or before Money in the Bank.

WWE previously had plans for Drew McIntyre to feature in a world heavyweight championship feud against the champion Seth Rollins and that could also be on the card for the summer of 2023.

WWE Money in the Bank 2023 Premium Live Event goes down on Saturday, July 1 from the O2 Arena in London, England. Seth is scheduled for a title defense this upcoming night. The current PLE match card is given below:
