It was in October 2022 that Monica, 58, and Tim, 64, made a public appearance together at the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon, France.
Spectre actress Monica did the honours of presenting Edward Scissorhands director Tim with the Lumiere lifetime achievement award at the event, and the two shared a platonic kiss on the cheek on stage.
Accepting the accolade, Tim told the audience: ‘All my life put together, I have never felt so much love as tonight. Welcome to the best funeral I ever had!’
The pair were later spotted together, heading into a screening of a reproduction of the 1895 silent film Louis Lumière.
It doesn’t sound like anything more than two people who’ve been friends for 16 years, but Paris Match – according to the Mail Online – reports that Monica and Tim have been quietly in a relationship for four months.
The two are believed to have been single when they first struck up a romance, with Monica divorced from second husband and L’Appartement co-star Vincent Cassel in 2013, with the two parents to two daughters. She was previously married to Claudio Carlos Basso from 1990-1994.
Following her marriages, Monica began dating French artist Nicolas Lefebvre but they split in 2019.
Tim was also previously married to Lena Gieseke from 1987-1991, and famously in a long-term relationship with actress Helena Bonham Carter until 2014. They began dating in 2001 and share two daughters.
Opening up about her split from Vincent, Italian actress Monica told The Mirror in 2015: ‘It’s something I’d really never experienced before. I feel very alive. The single woman is a free woman, and being single does not mean being alone – it means being free to have a relationship or not.
‘This can be scary, but it’s also very interesting. Remember it’s not that long ago that women only existed in terms of their relationships to men.’
She went on to speak optimistically about the prospect of finding love in later life, and added: ‘We should not be worried about age when it comes to love and attraction.
‘Just as younger women are attracted to older men, it shouldn’t be considered strange that men in their 20s and 30s are drawn to older women. It’s the chemistry and energy between men and women that counts… True sexiness is in the mind, the imagination, not in the age of the body.’
