Coles has divided shoppers with the launch of a controversial new product, that if it was released in April could have been mistaken for an April Fool’s prank.
The supermarket giant has introduced savoury Hot Cross Buns in the flavour of its popular Special Burger Sauce — complete with pickle pieces and cheese for the price of $4 per pack.
The packet features a bottle of the condiment and promises a Hot Cross Bun with “special burger sauce and pickle pieces”.
The store has not yet officially launched the product, but one shopper shared it on the Grocery Geek Facebook page.
“What the… ? This is not a joke… ok people, we really don’t know how to feel about this latest Hot Cross Bun creation,” they said.
“All the flavours they could do and they choose that monstrosity?” another asked.
But shockingly, some liked the idea.
“Oh come on people… like you’ve never had a cheesy bun! it’s just a savoury bun like cheese and bacon buns. I’d try it for sure,” one person said.
