Morbius Gets a New Poster Teasing Jared Leto’s Transformation

We’re coming closer to the long-awaited release of Morbius, and Sony is continuing to tease the film’s release with an all-new poster. Jared Leto’s Morbius stands front and center but a closer look at the poster artwork reveals more of the titular character after his transformation. Leto’s co-stars Tyrese Gibson, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, and Jared Harris are also featured.

Daniel Espinosa directs Morbius using a screenplay by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Al Madrigal and Corey Johnson also star, as does Michael Keaton reprising his role as Adrian Toomes from Spider-Man: Homecoming. This had always puzzled Marvel fans before when it was first revealed that Keaton would be in the movie, but now that the multiverse has linked these separate cinematic universes together, anything is possible.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

This is the third movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe following 2018’s Venom and its 2021 sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage. A Kraven the Hunter movie starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson is also in the works for a 2023 release. Just recently, it was reported that Dakota Johnson would be starring in a Madame Web movie that’s also a part of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. There are also rumored plans of a Sinister Six movie in early development.

The official synopsis for the film reads, “One of the most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?”

Jared Leto Believes Morbius Is the Perfect Role for Him

Jared Leto has played a wide variety of characters over the course of his career. While he has made a significant splash in the superhero movie realm with his appearances as the Joker in Suicide Squad and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Leto has really taken to playing Morbius in this new film. In fact, he considers it to be the “perfect” role for him as an actor.

“Morbius gave me the opportunity to have this character that really makes three pretty significant transformations,” Leto told Deadline. “He starts off very, very sick searching for a cure disease… then he finds a cure and it becomes powerful and stronger than he’s ever been before. Then there is another transformation that happens. It was kind of the perfect role for me. Honestly, I enjoyed it quite a bit.”

Morbius is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 1, 2022. That is, of course, provided there are no more delays. The film has been delayed even more times than The New Mutants, having originally been slated for a 2020 release. It’s been a long time coming, but as of now, it appears that the April 1 release date is set in stone.
