A bus stop in Karnataka’s Mysuru – at the centre of a controversy amid claims by a Bharatiya Janata Party MP that it ‘is a mosque’ – has been given a makeover. Photographs circulating online show three gold-shaped domes atop the structure – commissioned by another lawmaker of the ruling BJP – have been replaced with a single red-coloured dome.
The bus stop had been threatened with demolition by BJP MP Pratap Simha, who gleefully shared photos of the new structure and said, “…thanks to District Collector who asked for time and kept his word. Thanks to Ramdas ji (Ram Das, the BJP MLA who had the bus stop built) who understood the reality and followed the referendum.”
“I’ve seen it on social media. The bus stand has three domes, a big one in the middle and two small ones beside it. That’s a masjid only,” Simha had said earlier.
“Engineers have to remove this type of structure. Otherwise, I’ll bring JCB and bring it down.”
Reacting to Simha’s statements, Congress MLA Tanveer Sait said, “What do we do if everything looks like the shape of the mosque? I don’t know who designed that shelter. If he wants to demolish that bus stop, let us see what all he will demolish in future.”
