MS Dhoni: Former India cricketer’s Dhoni Entertainment producing a three-part movie on national bestseller

Dhoni – who won two ICC World Cups and the Champions Trophy 2013 for India – is hailed as one of the greatest cricketers in the white-ball format.

The wicketkeeper-batter retired from the international format in 2020, having played his last India match in 2019, and is one of the richest cricketers in the world.

Apart from earning through IPL and endorsements, Dhoni continues to expand his wealth by venturing into several business ideas. The cricketer has stakes in franchise-based leagues, runs cricket academies, apparel brands, and a big production house.

The production house is titled Dhoni Entertainment and is co-owned by Dhoni and his wife Sakshi Singh Dhoni. It began with a Tamil movie titled LGM. The romantic comedy is helmed by Ramesh Tamilmani and has Tamil actors Harish Kalyan and Ivana in lead roles.

Dhoni isn’t just investing in the South film industry. The legendary cricketer has also purchased the rights of a national best-seller to produce a Hindi movie.

The three-part movie is based on the best-selling English novel, The Hidden Hindu authored by Akshat Gupta. The untitled movie is under the pre-production phase and the production house will announce the cast, and other details of the ambitious project at a later date.

The Hidden Hindu trilogy is a mythological thriller and its unique storyline piqued the interest of the former India cricketer. The book has already sold more than a million copies and the Hindi version of the book – translated by the original author – is also available for the readers. The first part of the book has been published, the second one will be available in a few days time.

Apart from the movie, Dhoni had some time back announced a Graphic Novel titled ‘Atharva’. Commenting on the project, MS Dhoni said, “I am thrilled to be associated with this project and it is indeed an exciting venture. Atharva – The Origin is a captivating graphic novel with an engaging story and immersive artwork. Author Ramesh Thamilmani’s attempt to launch India’s first mythological superhero with a contemporary twist will leave every reader wanting for more.”
