Mumbai-based sports psychologist Mugdha Bavare, who is currently helping the Indian women’s team in New Zealand, was previously assisting the Mumbai Ranji team. Under Ajinkya Rahane’s captaincy, Mumbai’s challenge in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy ended in the league stages last November.
Then, the Shams Mulani-led Mumbai team managed just one win and failed to make it to the knockouts of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December. Thereafter, at Mumbai coach Amol Muzumdar’s request, the Mumbai Cricket Association decided to rope in Bavare to assist the Prithvi Shaw-led Mumbai Ranji team.
Bavare had come one-on-one sessions with the Mumbai Ranji players at the Wankhede Stadium in December. However, now, while the Mumbai team will be heading for their first Ranji game against defending champions Saurashtra in Ahmedabad from February 17, Bavare has joined Mithali Raj & Co to help them focus for the all-important World Cup.
