Murray fires back at Farage after he posted video with Djokovic family amid visa row

Sir Andy Murray offered a withering response to Nigel Farage as the ex-UKIP leader posted a video with Novak Djokovic’s family amid his visa row.

Djokovic sensationally had his visa cancelled by Australia last week as border officials were not satisfied he had a valid COVID-19 vaccine exemption.

The 34-year-old was relying on a positive coronavirus test in December as a valid exemption to allow him into the country.

The 20-time Grand Slam winner appealed against the attempts to deport him from the country and spent the last few days being detained in an immigration facility.

There was outcry by Djokovic’s family and fans at the treatment he was receiving in Australia.

Farage has been ridiculed over the last few days for weighing-in to the saga as Australia attempted to control its borders.

Prior to Djokovic’s appeal hearing, Farage posted a video in Belgrade with the tennis great’s family.

Three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray fired back at the former UKIP leader.

He wrote on Twitter: “Please record the awkward moment when you tell them you’ve spent most of your career campaigning to have people from Eastern Europe deported.”

Murray himself had expressed his concern for his friend and long-time rival in comments over the weekend.

He also said the whole sage was ‘not good for tennis’.

There was good news for Djokovic on Monday as a court overturned the decision to cancel his visa and has been allowed to enter Australia.

As it stands, he will play the Australian Open, but the Minister for Immigration, Alex Hawke – not the minister who made the original visa cancellation – will now consider whether to exercise a personal power of cancellation of Djokovic’s visa.
