First up this week is a new romcom!
Your Place or Mine stars Reese Witherspoon (from Legally Blonde and Big Little Lies) and Ashton Kutcher (from That ’70s Show and the Butterfly Effect) as two long-time friends living on different coasts. He lives in New York and frequently sleeps around, and she lives in Los Angeles raising her son alone. She’s incredibly stressed out being a single working mom, and he comes up with a proposal. For one week, they’ll switch places. She gets to have a vacation in the Big Apple, and he’ll look after her kid on the best coast. While he’s living in her house, he realizes that he has feelings for her but he’s not sure if she’s reciprocating them. And while she’s out on NYC, she’s on the prowl for some fun with handsome men. This film also stars Zoë Chao (from the Afterparty), Jesse Williams (from Grey’s Anatomy), and Tig Notaro (from Star Trek: Discovery).

Somebody I Used to Know

Next up, another romcom for those who like their romcoms to be bittersweet!
Somebody I Used to Know stars Alison Brie (from Community and GLOW). The film was written by her and her husband Dave Franco, who also directs. She plays Ally, a woman visiting her hometown for a weekend. She encounters her ex-boyfriend Sean (played by Jay Ellis from Insecure and Top Gun: Maverick), and realizes she still has feelings for him. The two reconnect, but complicating matters between them is the fact that he’s getting married this weekend to a younger woman (played by Kiersey Clemons from Hearts Beat Loud). This film also stars Danny Pudi (from Community), Olga Merediz (from Orange is the New Black) and Haley Joel Osmont (from the Sixth Sense).

Marc Maron: From Bleak to Dark

Now, it’s time for a comedy special from a famous podcaster!
Marc Maron: From Bleak to Dark is the latest special from the host of WTF with Marc Maron. In this latest HBO special, the comedian discusses light material such as antisemitism, growing older, and complicated relationships with your parents. But he also takes time to focus on an intense personal tragedy he experienced. Early on the in the pandemic, his girlfriend of one year (filmmaker Lynn Shelton who made the films Humpday and Outside In) passed away from leukemia. It was a incredibly painful event for him, one that took a lot of personal time to work through. But he came through the other side, and now he’s ready to laugh again. Or at least, commiserate with an audience.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance

Next up, it’s time for one last dance!
Magic Mike’s Last Dance is the final film in the Magic Mike trilogy. We find everyone’s favourite stripper Mike (played by Channing Tatum from 21 Jump Street and Dog) working in Miami as a bartender, having lost his business during the COVID-19 pandemic. He meets a very rich woman (played by Salma Hayek from Frida and Eternals) who pays him a large amount of money for one lap dance, and it leads to them sleeping together. She then asks him if he’ll come to London, England with her, and put on one of the biggest shows of his life. This film also stars Ayub Khan Din (from Coronation Street), Vicki Pepperdine (from Getting On), and Alan Cox (from Lucan).

You (Season 4, Part 1)

Lastly, it’s time for a return for Netflix’s most famous serial killer!
In the first part of the fourth season of You, we find Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley from Gossip Girl and the Stepfather) living in England under a false name. He’s become a professor at a university, and hopes to never return to his old life and his old ways. One day, somebody starts killing the people around him. Eventually the person seeming to be the killer contacts him, knowing some of his secrets and appearing to desire a relationship of some sort with Joe. Will he fall back into his old ways and become obsessed with this killer, or will he finally move on from his obsessions? The first half of the fourth season is out now, with the second half set to come out in a month. This new season of the shows adds actors like Lukas Gage (from the White Lotus), Charlotte Ritchie (from Dead Pixels) and Amy-Leigh Hickman (from EastEnders).
