First up, it’s time for some superpowered mayhem!
Gen V is a spin-off of the Boys, and just like that show it’s shot in the G.T.A. It’s about a superhero university that prepares its students for a life of fighting crime. The main character is a freshman blood bender called Marie (played by Jaz Sinclair from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) who discovers a strange controversy shortly after arriving that involves a student’s death. She and her friends investigate, discovering there’s a dark side to this school and the company that runs it. You can expect some surprise appearances from the Boys as well in this show. Gen V also stars Chance Perdomo (from Killed By My Debt), Maddie Philips (from Teenage Bounty Hunters), and Shelley Conn (from Bridgerton).

Flora and Son

Next up, let’s take a trip across the Atlantic!
Flora and Son is a new film that played at TIFF this year. This Irish film stars Eve Hewson (from the Knick) as a single mother in Dublin raising a teenage son who keeps getting into trouble with the law. The police tell her to find a hobby for him, and she thinks that learning guitar could be a good choice. But he refuses to learn, so she decides to pick it up with the help of a guitar teacher in Los Angeles. And through her experience learning about music, they might just find that they something in common after all. This film also stars Jack Reynor (from Midsommar), Kelly Thornton (from Life’s a Breeze) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (from 500 Days of Summer).

All Up In The Biz

Now, let’s take a look at the Clown Prince of Hip-Hop!
All Up In The Biz is a documentary about one of the more unique and humourous rappers out there, Biz Markie. From his beginnings in Harlem to massive success with his 1989 hit “Just a Friend” and the legal battles that ensued, to his early death in 2021 this film examines his legacy as an incredibly funny rapper who was at times more loved by other rappers than the general public. This film features interviews with his contemporaries like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, and comedian Tracy Morgan (from 30 Rock).

Shoresy (Season 2)

Next up, let’s head north to Sudbury!
The second season of Shoresy has begun airing! For those who don’t know, Shoresy is a spin-off of the classic Canadian comedy Letterkenny. Both shows are created by Jared Keeso (from Keep Your Head Up Kid: The Don Cherry Story), who also plays the titular character of Shoresy. In this show, Shoresy has left the small town of Letterkenny for Sudbury to join a Triple A-level hockey team called the Sudbury Bulldogs. This show also stars Tasya Teles (from Intruders), Keilani Elizabeth Rose (from Flimsy), and former Montreal Canadiens player Terry Ryan.

The Creator

Last but not least, it’s time for a sci-fi epic!
The Creator is the newest film from Gareth Edwards (the director of Godzilla and Rogue One: A Stars Wars Story). It stars John David Washington (from Tenet) as a soldier living in a future where humanity is at war with artificial intelligence. He’s sent on a mission to find and kill the leader of the A.I., but instead discovers an A.I. in the form of a young child. Unable to kill her, he decides to take care of her and protect her from whoever may harm her. This film also stars Gemma Chan (from Eternals), Ken Watanabe (from Inception), and Allison Janney (from I, Tonya).
