Starting this week off with an adaptation of one of the best video games of all time!

The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal (from Game of Thrones and the Mandalorian) as a smuggler 20 years into a fungal-based zombie apocalypse. He’s been through extreme trauma, and fears there could be more when he’s given a new job to take a teenage girl across the country. Her name is Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey from Catherine Called Birdy and Game of Thrones), and she appears to be the first human ever who is immune to the zombie virus. The two go on a harrowing adventure through a mostly decimated United States, meeting several foes and hopefully a few friends. This show is created by Craig Mazin (who made Chernobyl), as well as the original creator of the video game, Neil Druckmann. It’s an intense watch, but it looks like it could be the first adaptation to break the video game curse. This show also features Nick Offerman (from Parks and Recreation), Gabriel Luna (from Terminator: Dark Fate), and Anna Torv (from Mindhunter).

Servant (Season 4)

Next up, the final season of a crazy drama!

For those who don’t know, Servant is a show that’s executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan. It stars Toby Kebbell (from Kong: Skull Island) and Lauren Ambrose (from Six Feet Under) as a couple who are mourning the death of their baby, and so they decide to get a realistic doll to replace it. The mother decides to hire a nanny (played by Nell Tiger Free from Game of Thrones), but something seems very off about her. When she’s happy, things are very good around the house, and when she’s angry thing start taking a turn for the supernatural. In this latest season, Ambrose’s character returns to their house paralyzed, and unsure of what will happen when she next sees their nanny. This show also stars Rupert Grint (from the Harry Potter series).

Velma

Where to watch: Crave

Now, it’s time for an adaptation of a beloved Hanna-Barbera comedy!

Velma is a prequel of the original show, except there is no Scooby-Doo to be found. In this show, Velma (played by Mindy Kaling from the Office) is the main character. She’s a lonely teen interested in solving mysteries, especially when one of her classmates turns up dead in the locker room. She’s initially accused of her murder, and decides she’ll do anything to solve the mystery and clear her name. In investigating the situation alongside other students, more students start turning up dead. This is a very modern take on the Mystery gang, described here as a love quadrangle. This show also stars Sam Richardson (from Detroiters) as Shaggy, Constance Wu (from Hustlers) as Daphne, and Glenn Howerton (from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as Fred.

Hunters (Season 2)

Next up, a return to Nazi-hunting!

The second and final season of Hunters is out now! This 2020 sensation stars Logan Lerman (from the Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Al Pacino (from the Irishman) as two members of a secret Nazi hunting group operating in New York City in the late 1970s. After taking care of several hidden Nazis in the first season, the team has to get back together upon learning that Adolf Hitler (played by Udo Kier from Flesh for Frankenstein) is alive and living in Argentina. There, with his wife Eva Braun (played by Lena Olin from Chocolat), the two continue their plan to create the Fourth Reich. This show also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh (from the Hateful Eight), Louis Ozawa (from the Bourne Legacy), and Josh Radnor (from How I Met Your Mother).

Plane

Where to watch: Cinemas

Last but certainly not least, some insanely intense action!

Plane is a new film starring Gerard Butler (from 300 and Olympus Has Fallen). He plays a commercial pilot who has to take a dangerous fugitive on his plane (played by Mike Colter from Luke Cage). Shortly after take off, the plane ends up crashing on a small island near the Philippines run by a violent militia. They kidnap the majority of the plane’s passengers, and decide to hold them for ransom from the American government and their families. But Butler was able to escape, and he must free the dangerous prisoner to secure his help in getting all the passengers home safely. This film also stars Yosan An (from Mulan), Tony Goldwyn (from Tarzan), and Daniella Pineda (from Cowboy Bebop).
