Nani?! Yakuza Character Skins Announced For Rainbow Six Siege

0

In a tweet posted to the official Ryu Ga Gotoku Twitter account, the Yakuza developer announced that Rainbow Six Siege would be getting two new operator skins based on Yakuza characters. Players will be able to get their hands on a Kiyru Kazuma skin for Echo, and one of Kaoru Sayama for Hibana on May 24th.

The tweet included a photo showing off the character models and weapon skins for both, including Kiyru’s gorgeous white AK with his Yakuza back tatoo plastered on the side of the barrel. Alongside the announcement on Twitter, a trailer was posted to YouTube that shows off the two new skins in greater detail, and is accompanied by Yakuza battle music, and the series’ classic character introduces visual queues.

While the trailer didn’t provide any additional context for the skins (or why Majima was omitted in favour of Sayama from Yakuza 2), it does provide a good look at the skins for anyone excited about the crossover. At the moment no other Yakuza characters have been announced for Rainbow Six Siege.

One thing most fans will be asking is whether or not anyone else from the Tojo Clan will show up in Rainbow Six Siege, or any other games. Late last year, Ryu Ga Gotoku did introduce Yakuza-themed costumes for Virtua Fighter 5 and even Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania last year.

Fans are also sure to debate Kiyru’s relationship with guns, and specifically how these new skins go against the creator’s vision for the Dragon of Dojima. More than that, anyone who has played the Yakuza games knows the gameplay revolves around most characters walloping each other with their fist, or any loose bicycles found in the area. The only time fans have seen Kiryu and his pals regularly using guns was in the PS3 alternate reality zombie game Yakuza Dead Souls — which was itself a fairly controversial release at the time.

The new skins for Rainbow Six Siege launch in just a few days on May 24th. Rainbow Six Siege is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Amazon Luna, Google Stadia, and Windows PC
