Match In Pictures: Liverpool 2-0 Everton

Liverpool kept up the pressure on Manchester City with a 2-0 win over Merseyside rivals Everton on Sunday.

Goals from Andy Robertson and Divock Origi sealed the win for Jurgen Klopp’s side as they maintained their hunt for the quadruple. The win keeps them on the coattails of City, just a point behind the defending champions with five games left for both sides.

Attentions for both teams now turn to the Champions League in midweek with semi-final first leg affairs to concentrate on. Meanwhile, away from Anfield there are a clutch of players out on loan also looking to finish the season with a bang. Here, Mirror Football looks at how they got on at the weekend.

Nat Phillips

Defender Phillips played the full 90 minutes as Bournemouth clinched a potentially vital point against already-promoted Fulham.

The top two met at the Vitality Stadium but Phillips will have been disappointed with how he was outjumped and outmuscled for the opening goal. Fulham goal machine Aleksandar Mitrovic made it 41 league goals for the season with a header that only just crossed the line and had to be clarified by goalline technology.

Despite that, Phillips recovered and ensured no further goals were conceded. He touched the ball 103 times – the most of any player on the pitch – and won a whopping seven aerial duels. His copybook was blotted with a caution, although he was one of 10 players to be carded.

Bournemouth managed to pinch a point deep into stoppage time when former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke fired home a penalty to maintain breathing space between the Cherries and the chasing pack.

Neco Williams

Wales international Williams was not included in the Fulham squad for the aforementioned draw with Bournemouth. Cottagers’ boss Marco Silva said his exclusion was a “technical decision”.

Ben Davies

Defender Davies, who has yet to make a senior appearance for his parent club, was an unused substitute as Sheffield United beat Cardiff 1-0 to maintain their Championship play-off hopes.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side are still sixth, three points clear of Millwall with two matches remaining.

Sepp van den Berg

Sepp van den Berg could bring up 50 appearances for Preston if he features in their last three games

Dutch defender van den Berg will be hoping to continue his run of starts for Preston North End when they host Blackburn Rovers on Monday night. The 20-year-old has made 47 appearances already for the Lilywhites this term.

Sheyi Ojo

For the fourth successive match winger Ojo was an unused substitute, as Millwall rescued a point away at Birmingham City.

The Lions twice trailed but came back on both occasions with Benik Afobe’s penalty deep into stoppage time maintaining their hopes of sneaking into the play-off places. Ojo only recently returned from a lengthy lay-off with an ankle injury and has made two brief sub appearances for Gary Rowett’s side, the last of which came in early April.

Jake Cain

Youngster Cain was unable to influence Newport County’s 2-1 loss to Colchester United on Friday. For the second game running he was an unused sub as the Exiles’ League Two play-off hopes continue to fade. The defeat was a third in a row for James Rowberry’s side who are now four adrift of seventh place with only two matches left to play.

Cain has made 26 appearances in all competitions for Newport.
