“I think I’m seeing Russian Doll more and more as a Fire Walk with Me or something like the Twin Peaks journey, so you can have this kind of legacy to it. And then you’re allowed to kind of make a movie about it whenever you want, on your own timeline,” Lyonne told Deadline.

For those who are not familiar with the series, Russian Doll revolves around the character Nadia, played by Lyonne. Nadia finds herself caught in a peculiar time loop, where she experiences death repeatedly only to be brought back to the same evening—a night when a celebration is being held in her honor. She then tries to figure out what is happening, later in the series, she meets a man who is experiencing the same thing as her.

In season 2, Nadia returned back in 1982 as her mother Lenora, who was then pregnant with her. During this time, Nadia decided to go after the gold Krugerrands her mother lost that same year, in the hopes of changing the fate of her family.

The show premiered February 2019 and the second season followed only after April 2022. If the third season will take the same timeline and observe a three year gap between each season, then we can expect the Russian Doll to return in the first quarter of 2025. There’s no official announcement from Netflix yet, but the possibility of Russian Doll Season 3 is high.

The series description for Russian Doll is as follows:

Russian Doll follows a woman named Nadia who is caught in a time loop as the guest of honor at her seemingly inescapable 36th birthday party one night in New York City. She dies repeatedly, always restarting at the same moment at the party, as she tries to figure out what is happening to her.
