Nate Diaz didn’t seem impressed with Charles Oliveira submitting Dustin Poirier in three rounds at UFC 269. Then, Conor McGregor let his voice be heard when Diaz namedropped him.
If Charles Oliveira didn’t have the respect of being a UFC champion before, he may certainly have it now thanks to his successful title defense over Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 269.
But it seems that one person — Nate Diaz — doesn’t think much of Oliveira’s win. This seems to be nothing of Oliveira’s fault, but rather Poirier’s.
Following Oliveria’s win, which came in the third round via submission, the younger Diaz brother seemed to take shots at Poirier.
In aftermath of UFC 269, Nate Diaz says Dustin Poirier ‘sucks’ and doesn’t understand how Conor McGregor lost to him twice
Of course, Conor McGregor wasn’t going to let any shots taken at him (even if not the direct target) go without a reply. McGregor replied to the Diaz tweet that namedropped him, responding with some choice words at Diaz and taking his own shots at Poirier’s loss.
Diaz and Poirier were originally scheduled to face off at UFC 230 in November 2018, but the bout was scrapped after Poirier suffered an injury.
Prior to his shot at Oliveira, Poirier had a pair of fights with McGregor earlier this year, defeating the former featherweight and lightweight champ at both UFC 257 and UFC 264, avenging a UFC 178 loss to McGregor.
Diaz and McGregor have their own rivalry, with the two splitting a pair of 2016 bouts, including the UFC 202 pay-per-view that was the most purchased in the MMA promotion’s history up until UFC 229.
Diaz returned to the Octagon for the first time since UFC 202 in 2019, defeating Anthony Pettis but losing to Jorge Masvidal. Diaz competed earlier this year at UFC 263, losing to Leon Edwards.
UFC 269 took place on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who is on-site, for all your news and highlights.
