The NBA has officially announced a new punishment for Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant.
Morant will be suspended for eight games without pay for “conduct detrimental to the league.” The ban is in response to Morant live streaming himself on Instagram at a Glendale, Colo. nightclub with a gun on the night of March 4.
Morant, who has been away from the Grizzlies since the incident, is basically getting credit for time served though, as he will be eligible to return to the court against the Dallas Mavericks on March 20.
The All-Star point guard will only have to miss three additional games–tonight against the Heat, Friday vs. the Spurs and Saturday against the Warriors.
Morant recently spent time in a counseling program in Florida before leaving and meeting with NBA commissioner Adam Silver on Monday.
He won’t face any criminal chargers stemming from the nightclub gun incident, but still has NBA disciplinary obligations to fulfill.
