The NBA has fined Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas $40,000 for using “derogatory and disparaging language during a live television interview.”
Thomas jokingly said “no homo” during his postgame interview on Thursday night.
The NBA released a statement outlining Thomas’ punishment on Friday afternoon.
Thomas issued an apology for his words on Twitter after the Nets’ 116-105 victory over the Chicago Bulls.
“I want to apologize for the insensitive word I used in the post-game interview. I was excited about the win and was being playful. I definitely didn’t intend to offend anyone, but realize that I probably did. My apologies again. Much love,” he wrote.
Before last night’s game, Thomas became the youngest player in NBA history to record three straight 40-point games. After going scoreless in the first half, the 21-year-old guard finished with 20 points.
Thomas has been asked to shoulder a heavy scoring load following the departures of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
