When the Memphis Grizzlies said that Dillon Brooks wouldn’t be back “under any circumstances,” many thought his free agent market had tanked.

However, the Houston Rockets saw fit to give the Canadian-born enforcer a four-year, $80 million contract. Something that had NBA Twitter shook:

“Dillon Brooks got paid $80 million??” asked LakeShowYo.

“Dillon Brooks: 4 Years, $80 Million … Donte DiVincenzo: 4 Years, $50 Million … The Knicks are cooking,” KnicksMuse commented.

“Dillon Brooks Somehow Finessed The Houston Rockets Into Giving Him A 4 Year, $80 Million Deal,” reported Barstool Sports.

“80 MILLION FOR DILLON BROOKS WHAT ARE WE DOING MAN,” a fan asked.

“Crazy times in the NBA when Westbrook is worth $8 million and Dillion Brooks is worth $80 million,” tweeted Tate Frazier. “I know it’s not apples to apples and the years aren’t the same but my goodness that’s wild.”

“So you sign Dillon Brooks for $80 million, who’s unplayable next to Amen Thompson … Keep KPJ who will take minutes from Amen Thompson, and sign a $43 million per year deal for a veteran PG who will likely lead your team in minutes (at Amens position) … Why even draft him??” a user wondered.

The Rockets also signed Fred VanFleet to a three-year, $130 million deal.
