The Boston Celtics’ season may be over, but it doesn’t appear that Joe Mazzulla’s tenure as head coach is ending.

Mazzulla took over for Ime Udoka following his suspension to begin the season. Originally the interim coach, Mazzulla was upgraded to the permanent head coach based on the success he had in the first half of the season.

Mazzulla would go on to lead the Celtics to the No. 2 seed in the East and eventually within one game of a trip back to the NBA Finals.

According to one writer who covers the team, that was enough to earn him at least one more year on the sidelines.

The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach says all signs point to Mazzulla coaching the team again next year.

Fans reacted to the news, with some happy to see Mazzulla back next season.

Other fans were disappointed to hear that he would likely be returning.

The Celtics will need to answer several questions this offseason, with the most pressing being the status of Jaylen Brown.

Brown played poorly in the loss to the Miami Heat that ended the team’s season, casting doubt on whether or not he would receive the five-year supermax extension he is eligible for.

With Mazzulla likely back, the team seems to be leaning toward continuity and stability. That bodes well for Brown, as he is coming off his first All-NBA season.
