Before shocking the word and making the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat attempted to stun everyone with a major midseason acquisition.
According to FanDuel TV’s Shams Charania, the Heat made the Brooklyn Nets an offer for Kyrie Irving before the trade deadline. The Nets instead sent him to the Dallas Mavericks, who missed the play-in tournament.
While missing out on the polarizing point guard didn’t hinder Miami’s postseason plans, Charania said the Heat will continue to seek a star upgrade this offseason. He wondered if they’d “circle back” on Irving.
Fans all responded to the seemingly inharmonious match between Irving and the franchise’s fabled “Heat Culture.”
“You’re an organization that prides itself on culture? Gotta bring in Kyrie. Great strategy,” a fan said sarcastically.

“Miami adding Kyrie and watching their culture collapse from within is the final ingredient for us to beat them next year, so I’m all for it,” a Celtics fan claimed.

It’s unclear what Miami offered Brooklyn for Irving, but Charania sees Tyler Herro and first-round draft picks as the Heat’s trade chips this offseason.
Irving would give Miami an elite offensive playmaker to take some of the scoring load away from Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Fans only seem concerned with how his personality would mesh within the organization.
Since signing with the Nets, Irving has played 163 games in four seasons. He’s missed time because of injuries, his refusal to get vaccinated for COVID-19, and a suspension after posting the link to an antisemitic book and film on social media.
Despite off-court concerns, the 31-year-old is one of the league’s highest-profile free agents this summer.
