NBA fans were caught off guard when learning of the Phoenix Suns sending Chris Paul to the Washington Wizards in a trade for Bradley Beal.
Fresh off news of the blockbuster, Paul appeared on Monday’sGood Morning America. When former NFL star Michael Strahan told Paul he was surprised by the deal, Paul said he learned of the trade while traveling to New York for the ABC show.
“I was surprised, too,” Paul said. “I found out on the plane yesterday, flying here for this [interview]. In this league, anything can happen, so you just figure out what’s next.”
While Paul didn’t exactly seem thrilled by how the trade unfolded, he smiled and gave a diplomatic answer.
“CP3 is the best,” a fan claimed. “He is bothered by the situation BUT is genuine and the extreme pro.”

Paul shouldn’t be too shocked to leave Phoenix, as rumors previously surfaced of the Suns informing the 38-year-old they’d release him if not traded. However, the 12-time All-Star probably didn’t anticipate a trade to Washington, which appears to be starting from scratch by moving its star scorer for a seemingly light return.
But Paul shouldn’t plan a move to D.C. just yet. Per TNT’s Chris Haynes, the Wizards are expected to flip Paul to a contender, with the Los Angeles Clippers seeking a reunion.
