The Miami Heat have reportedly been Damian Lillard’s preferred destination for some time now, even before the seven-time All-Star formally requested a trade.
According to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic, Miami is not just a “preference” for Lillard. It’s the “only” place he wants to play.
Other teams are showing interest in the 32-year-old point guard, and there was even a report that the Philadelphia 76ers could have landed Lillard already if they were willing to part with Tyrese Maxey in return.
Charania himself said he expects it to be a “patient process” and that Portland general manager Joe Cronin will go around the league and evaluate the market.
“I think like James Harden, Damian Lillard is the caliber of player and at the age where a preferred destination is the likely path,” Charania said.
“Damian Lillard only wants to play for the Miami Heat … I’m told there are 3- or 4-team scenarios in a deal with the Heat that would potentially net the Blazers several first-round draft picks.”

Charania went on to say that there are potential three or four-team scenarios where Lillard winds up in Miami and the Trail Blazers end up with “several” first-round draft picks.
The No. 6 overall pick in the first round of the 2012 NBA Draft out of Weber State, Lillard has spent his entire career with Portland up until this point.
