The NBA’s answer to Europe’s love of in-season championship tournaments has culminated in the creation of a new tournament aptly named the “In-Season Tournament.”

After long ago announcing that the NBA would be adding a new Champions League or EuroLeague style tournament, the association announced today what the format will consist of.

Per the NBA’s official release, in the month of November the 30 teams will be divided into six groups of five teams, each of which will play two home and two away games on Tuesdays and Fridays. After all games have been played, the six group winners plus two “wild card” teams will advance to an eight-team knockout round.

The knockout round will be single-elimination and take place in December, with the semifinals and championship game being held in Las Vegas between December 7 and 9.

The groups have already been determined via a private draw. Here are the groups:

West Group A: Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns, L.A. Lakers, Utah Jazz, Portland Trail Blazers

West Group B: Denver Nuggets, L.A. Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets

West Group C: Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs

East Group A: Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons

East Group B: Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets

East Group C: Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Orlando Magic

Participants in the tournament will receive substantial cash prizes depending on the team’s performance and how deep they go.
