The 28-year-old soon-to-be free agent has been arrested and charged with drug trafficking after officers allege they discovered three pounds of marijuana in his vehicle during a May traffic stop.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Harrell was driving a a 2020 Honda Pilot rental too close to the car in front of him around 10 a.m. on May 12. After he was pulled over, a Kentucky State Trooper said there was an odour of marijuana wafting from the car.

He was slated to be in court Monday.
The incident wasn’t much of a homecoming for Harrell who played his college hoops at the University of Louisville. Since was pinched with less five pounds of weed, it is considered a Class D felony for first-time offenders. Still, if convicted it might mean up to five years in the slammer, although that’s highly unlikely.
Harrell averaged 14 points and nearly seven rebounds a game for the Hornets during the 2021-22 season.
