LaMarcus Aldridge hasn’t played in an NBA game since last March. The veteran free agent will reportedly receive an opportunity to join a contender.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Aldridge will work out for the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday.

The NBA world responded to the 37-year-old resurfacing as a possible addition to the Mavericks’ frontcourt.

“Interesting,” Mike Bacsik of 105.3 The Fan said.

“Good for him! He was still a solid scorer for the Nets last year, even if his defense has, uh, regressed,” Alec Sturm of Nets Daily wrote.

“Let’s hold tight. This might be a scheduled tweet from 2019,” fantasy basketball analyst Matt Lawson joked.

“He’s a Kyrie guy so this signing would make sense,” Josh Mazur of 214 The Win reasoned. Hate to say it but even at this point in his career he might be more effective than some of the Mavs bigs. Averaged a block a game and 5.5 rebounds with a 112.5 defensive rating last year.”

“Can’t lie, I thought he retired,” a fan admitted.

Aldridge retired in April 2021 due to a heart condition, but he returned later that year once doctors medically cleared him. The seven-time All-Star averaged 12.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in 47 games with the Brooklyn Nets.

He’s averaged 19.1 points and 8.1 rebounds across 16 NBA seasons, but Aldridge is a limited defender whose mid-range offensive game doesn’t mesh well with the game’s modern philosophies.

Yet the Mavericks lack an interior scoring threat beyond Christian Wood. Aldridge could bolster the second team’s offensive acumen to ease the burden for Luka Doncic and recent acquisition Kyrie Irving.
