It’s been nearly two years since center Meyers Leonard appeared in an NBA game. But after two years in NBA exile, it appears that he’s making a return.
According to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Leonard is signing a 10-day contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. It will mark his first time on an NBA sideline since January 2021 when he was with the Miami Heat.
Leonard is a rather controversial figure due to his publicized use of a Jewish slur during a lifestream back in March 9, 2021. The NBA suspended him for a week and fined him $50,000 for the incident. Miami later traded him.
For the most part, fans don’t seem to like the move. While some have pointed out that he has shown contrition in apologizing for the slur, others don’t think he belongs on an NBA team:
Meyers Leonard rose to prominence during his seven years with the Portland Trail Blazers. The former No. 11 overall draft pick averaged 5.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, almost always coming off the bench.
But when Leonard joined the Miami Heat for the 2019-20 season, he really made an impact. Leonard started 49 of 51 games that season and appeared in three games during the playoffs, including two of their NBA Finals games.
Will Meyers Leonard be able to parlay this 10-day run with the Bucks into a full-time return to the NBA?
