
Sunday’s comeback win may have come at a severe cost to the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, LeBron James will likely miss extended time with a right foot injury suffered during a 111-108 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
Charania said James, who finished the game after getting hurt, will seek multiple opinions. He’s expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks.
Losing LeBron indefinitely would be a critical blow to the Lakers, who are 12th in the Western Conference standings at 29-32. Fans responded to the major development.
“Ugh. This sucks,” NBA writer Tommy Beer wrote. “Bron could [be] heard on the broadcast saying, ‘I heard something pop’ when he initially injured his foot Sunday.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me. Just when the team is playing their best ball of the season,” a Lakers fan said. “Rest up, King! Health of LeBron is of utmost priority. Get back when you’re ready.”
“Remember when LeBron was invincible? It’s crazy he’s never been seriously injured up until the last few seasons,” Anthony Gill said.
“I’m still not panicking,” a fan wrote. Heal up King!!!”
“See yall next year,” another fan said.
James posted a photo of his foot on an Instagram Story on Monday, noting that the injury “sucks.”
The 38-year-old nevertheless scored 11 points in the fourth quarter Sunday, leading the Lakers to a pivotal triumph over a Western Conference foe. He’s averaging 29.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists in his 20th NBA season.
With 21 games remaining, a prolonged absence from James could cost block the Lakers’ path back to the playoffs.
