MANILA, Philippines—The NCAA on Saturday officially forfeited the Mapua’s Season 98 opening game win over San Beda.
The development comes after the Cardinals fielded an ineligible player, Gab Gamboa, in said game where they won 66-55.
Gamboa was found to have been enrolled in two schools at the same time.
“As per NCAA rules, the game wherein he competed, will be forfeited. He was enrolled in Mapua and enrolled in St. Clare as well. He was in two schools,” NCAA commissioner Tonichi Pujante said.
He also stated that Gamboa is banned from playing in the NCAA “for life.”
Mapua will now move down to 0-6 as the league’s worst team below also-winless Emilio Aguinaldo College (0-5). San Beda now holds a 4-1 record, tied with Lyceum at the second seed.
Randy Alcantara has confirmed Gamboa’s withdrawal from the team’s lineup on September 18 but refused to divulge more information.
Gamboa played only seven minutes in his lone game in the NCAA, scoring just two points and two assists.
