Former UConn men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie is receiving interest from an NBA team.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Pistons will interview Ollie for their head coaching job.

Ollie, 50, played in the NBA from 1997-2010. He played for the Mavericks, Magic, Kings, 76ers, Nets, Bulls, Pacers, Bucks, Cavaliers, Timberwolves and Thunder.

After spending three seasons as an assistant coach for UConn, Ollie was promoted to head coach. The former All-Big East point guard held that title from 2012-18.

Ollie’s greatest achievement took place during the 2013-14 season. He led UConn to a national championship, defeating Kentucky by a final score of 60-54.

UConn fired Ollie with just cause in March of 2018. This decision was made after he was charged with “failure to monitor” his program.

Ollie hasn’t coached a prominent basketball team since he was fired in 2018.

Perhaps the Pistons will give Ollie the second chance he’s looking for.
