NE police chiefs stress on coordination between states with central agencies

Coordination between northeastern states with central agencies need to be enhanced to deal with existing security challenges, a press statement issued by Tripura police said on Wednesday.

The issue was discussed at the 27th conference where director generals of police, heads of CPOs of the northeast with regional heads of 12 central agencies and ministry of home affairs officials attended on November 22 and 23 at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala.

Issues ranging from insurgency, disrupting drug trafficking networks, border issues and security requirements of the Act East policy, capacity building of police units to meet security challenges were also discussed in the two-day long conference.

“The Conference stressed on enhanced coordination between the various states as well with central agencies. Deliberations at the conference led to a range of specific recommendation on these issues,” reads a press statement issued by assistant inspector general (Law and Order) Jyotishman Das Chaudhury.

The conference was organised after a gap of three years due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The north-eastern level conference was organised after 30 years in Tripura, said chief minister Dr Manik Saha.

A day before, Tripura CM Saha said drugs are smuggled to Tripura through Assam and Mizoram before moving to Bangladesh.

He also stressed on greater coordination between the north eastern states to deal with existing security challenges.
