Neil Patrick Harris is apologizing for the “regrettable” joke he staged more than 10 years ago at a Halloween party, at the expense of singer Amy WInehouse, who had died three months earlier of alcohol poisoning.

At a October 2011 party involving Harris and his husband, David Burtka, a macabre buffet platter of meats, elaborately arranged to look like Winehouse’s corpse, presumably on an autopsy table, was served according to the Daily Beast.

Social media users in recent days resurfaced a photo of the platter, Entertainment Weekly reported. The photo showed the dish, with a sign next to it that reads: “The Corpse of Amy Winehouse.” The sign also said: “Beef ribs, pulled pork, chicken sausage in a spicy BBQ sauce.”

Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011, at age 27. After the photo began making the rounds on social media, Entertainment Weekly reached out to Harris for a comment.

He said in a statement: “A photo recently resurfaced from a Halloween-themed party my husband and I hosted 11 years ago. It was regrettable then, and it remains regrettable now. Amy Winehouse was a once-in-a-generation talent, and I’m sorry for any hurt this image caused.”

Before her death, Winehouse won five Grammy Awards at the 2008 ceremony for her second album “Back to Black,” which Entertainment Weekly said is still regarded as a pop classic. “Amy,” the 2015 documentary about her life and struggles with substance abuse, won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
