Netflix is set to unveil its latest addition to the Pokémon franchise, dubbed Pokémon Concierge. This unveiling is part of a larger trend where iconic video games are transcending their original media format. Pokémon has been a pioneer of this trend. They created an animated series out of their successful Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue games.

Netflix first dabbled with Pokémon back in 2019. They released the reimagined 1999 classic Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution. However, this time around, Netflix is treading new waters by bringing fresh stories from this beloved universe to our screens.

Anime aficionados can mark July 1st in their calendar. They will be treated to a sneak peek of Pokémon Concierge at the Anime Expo 2023 in Japan. This heralded event is scheduled for 3:15 pm Japanese time during Netflix’s J-Content Presentation. It will take place in the Main Events room as per The Direct.

Minyoung Kim, Vice President of Netflix Content in Asia, expressed excitement and anticipation for Pokémon Concierge. She emphasized the groundbreaking stop-motion animation and the unique visual and storytelling experience it aims to offer. Coinciding with Pokémon Day, the series is part of the celebrations of this beloved franchise. It speaks volumes that Netflix chose such a momentous occasion to announce the series, highlighting its significance and the high hopes pegged on it.

Dwarf Studios, known for family-friendly animated series such as My Dad the Bounty Hunter and Disney+’s Monsters at Work, is the powerhouse behind Pokémon Concierge. It’s a name that carries weight and quality, adding to the anticipation. It’s also worth noting that this isn’t the only Pokémon project that Netflix has in its pipeline. There’s a live-action Pokémon series in early development, helmed by Joe Henderson, co-showrunner of Lucifer. Moreover, Netflix has become a sanctuary for Pokémon lovers as it’s the U.S. home for all previous Pokémon TV episodes.

The franchise has been relentless in churning out animated and live-action projects, with the likes of Ryan Reynolds’ Detective Pikachu. Pokémon Concierge adds a new dimension and flavor to this eclectic mix. The focal point of the series is the Pokémon themselves, possibly drawing inspiration from a 1999 short called Pikachu’s Vacation, where the lovable creatures had a day out.

The central character is Haru, a resort concierge, whose adventures and interactions with Pokémon and their trainers form the crux of the show. A teaser released in February gave us a brief glimpse of this captivating setting.

Fans are expecting to get a sense of the plot in the upcoming Anime Expo. If they are lucky, maybe even a window of the potential release date for the new Pokémon series. It is still unknown if Pokémon Concierge will become a part of the larger Pokémon universe.

Pokémon Concierge represents a new chapter in the storied history of the Pokémon franchise. Netflix is poised to capture the imaginations of both new and seasoned fans with its fresh take on the beloved creatures and their adventures.
