Netflix is setting sail on an exciting adventure with live-action take on One Piece. Fans worldwide have been eagerly anticipating any glimpse into this new rendition. Netflix has finally hoisted the anchor by revealing the first look at the iconic outfit of Monkey D. Luffy. The spirited and rubber-limbed pirate on a quest for the ultimate treasure.
It’s essential to note that the outfit stays true to the original, with Luffy’s signature straw hat, red vest, and blue shorts. However, purists might raise an eyebrow at the subtle change of Luffy trading in his sandals for shoes. This first look was captured by a Twitter user at Netflix’s Tudum global event in Brazil, and it certainly has been creating waves among the fans as per CBR.
But the excitement doesn’t stop at Luffy’s attire. Netflix previously unfurled its design of the Going Merry, the Straw Hat crew’s vessel for their swashbuckling escapades in the East Blue saga. The ship has been recreated with an eye for detail, complete with the sheep figurehead, chase gun, and the Straw Hat’s Jolly Roger flag hoisted high on the mast. The poster teases with the phrase, “The pirates are coming,” which, no doubt, sends shivers down the spines of fans. A closer examination of Luffy’s straw hat and the hand-painted flag was also shared with the fans in May.
Eiichiro Oda and Talented Cast Set the Series for an Epic Voyage
Fans have high hope for the upcoming series as Eiichiro Oda will be at the helm of this collaboration. Netflix has vowed not to release the series until it has Oda’s coveted seal of approval, which is reassuring. It’s worth mentioning that the high seas of Hollywood adaptation are treacherous, and rumors had circulated about the series capsizing at its first audience test screening. However, these rumors were scuttled by Greg Werner, an official consultant for the franchise.
Anchoring the cast for the Straw Hat Pirates are Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, and Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp. The supporting cast also includes Peter Gadiot as the inspiring pirate “Red-Haired” Shanks, Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Iron Mace Alvida of the Alvida Pirates, and Jeff Ward will have fans laughing and gasping as the infamous Buggy the Star Clown.
As the show is set to set sail in 2023, the show’s staff are elated for fans to experience the live-action adaptation of cherished storylines. The showrunner and Executive Producer, Matt Owens, believes they have knocked it out of the park with their rendition of iconic moments, particularly citing Nami’s emotional Help me from the Arlong Park arc.
The wind is in the sails for this Netflix adaptation of One Piece. With a promising cast, the creator’s involvement, and what seems to be a genuine respect for the source material, this series might just find the treasure it’s searching for in the hearts of both old and new fans alike.
